But this was my point from before. You're acting as if everyone who drinks decides they'll drive afterwards. That doesn't happen. Most people who drink don't drive. Everyone who smokes gives off second hand smoke, which is why there's laws about where you can smoke now. It's unfair to tar everyone who drinks with the same brush in regards to drink driving. The majority are responsible. Obesity of one person only effects them. Rising obesity levels that most first world countries are dealing with now effects other people though. It creates expenses and puts more and more pressure on the healthcare system to manage people with increasing health problems. You could say a solution to that is to force everyone to eat healthier. Not really fair though. |

I can't drink enough beer to harm myself or others. The beer I like is too heavy and super filling. Can't stand wine, gives me an instant headache. Liquor is too sweet and too strong. Prefer hops. I know better than to drink and drive. I always go places with a plan A through F. |

I know what you mean, usually when I smoke weed I would smoke it out of a glass pipe and the effect wouldnt even be comparable to liquor. But the first time I smoked out of a bong now that made the weed more potent and actually made me feel drunk which I never knew could happen by smoking weed lol. I don't enjoy being drunk and I tend to avoid situations where others are drunk. I only go to parties of super close friends. I go to the pub quite a lot, but I leave before people get wasted. I do drink occasionally, but we're talking one or two. Spirit wise, I love Sambucca. I wish someone would just invent a liquorice/aniseed flavour non alcoholic drink. Oh my god, imagine aniseed flavour Coke. Oh, my god. That would be my life. Ciders too, pear preferably. I'll drink beers but I'm sort of indifferent to them. For someone who doesn't drink often it seems to take quite a lot to loose me and I tend to fall asleep before then. It just makes me tired? I don't get confident, or loud, I get subdued and fall asleep in the corner? I struggle to deal with other people when they're drunk. My mum gets really argumentative and over emotional. So she'll start something and then cry when I call her out on BS. It drives me f***ing nuts. And people who get overconfident and loud piss me right off too. I value intelligent conversation, and alcohol ruins that. And it annoys the s*** out of me that most people can't just hang out and have a chat without resorting to alcohol, as if it's the purpose for leaving the house. Drives me nuts. Also, I'm such a cheapskate, and the cost of booze is like woooah wtf. I feel the same way about weed. It's far from harmless, but I don't think it's any worse than alcohol really. I've never tried and I can't think of anything less appealing, personally.
In my experience, in rural USA, they absolutely do. I've spent about a year collectively in Virginia staying with friends, and no one is concerned about drinking and driving. In fairness, there's like 5 people in the whole state, the roads are straight endless simplicity and It probably isn't anywhere near as dangerous as it is back home. Here in the UK, in London, I barely have any friends who drive in the first place, and those who do wouldn't even consider it. Perhaps because most of them haven't been driving that long and aren't as confident? All my older male family members, like my dad and especially my step dad and uncles, will drive after drinking. So yeah, people do. Especially older men. There's like a social pressure on them that they should. Edited by SaiyanHajime, Apr 20 2014, 07:07 AM.

Let's keep this topic on alcohol please If you want to discuss cannabinoids there are plenty of others threads for that. For myself, alcohol is something which is fine in moderation and as long as people are educated properly. Drink driving is definitely dangerous and the problem is that no one thinks they'll be the ones to cause a problem - usually the mindset is they haven't had any problems so far. It definitely is a highly problematic drug though in excess. The amount of families that split up due to it is pretty horrendous and it causes a lot of other social problems as well. When it comes down to it, there shouldn't be a restriction on it, but people should be educated better regarding the dangers of it. |

Alcohol is like everything in life: Perfectly fine in moderation. I very rarely drink these days, but at 18 I was on a year long bender that kind of took its toll on me big time. In all honesty it was a great time, and if anything got the whole "WOOHOO, PARTY!!!" thing out of my system. It comes down to personal choices. I chose to pack it in once I couldn't get home from work, because I hadn't slept properly in about 3 weeks due to being out drinking.....then going straight back out to work. I realized that was a bit of a problem, so stopped drinking so much. Others just don't see it, and wonder why they have no friends, no money, live a certain way of life, all while drinking "Brasso" for breakfast in a *Weatherspoons. So yeah......that's me hah. [* = For those that don't have have Weatherspoons, this is a chain of pubs in the UK, offering very cheap drinks to those wishing to be in a pub at 8am. Ok for nights out, but not during the day, where-in it tends to be full of drunks.] |

What is your opinion on alcohol? Why do you drink? Why do you avoid drinking? I think alcohol is the most addictive s*** ever created in history of men . It ruins everything and yeah It does make you feel a little better which means you are more confident etcetc.....the next morning is usually ..well I think everybody knows it..And when you are addicted to it it is figuratively impossible to kick out I do drink, sometimes when my mood deserves it....Oh yeah some of you might be sayin now YOU HYPOCRITE but you are wrong. I dont like alcohol...I dont like beer either.....Sometimes I drink it because the "company" deserves it...ifyaknowwhatImean I want to have an alcohol less life really and I most certainly have it without these exceptions i menationed above I used to be a heavy partyist or whatever they call it in the past....which means at least once great party every single week ..sometimes twice or even more.....But I had to realise that that kind of lifestyle could not make me progress further.Although it was fun and stuff, It was pointless, meaningless. |

I'm not much of a drinker. Then again, that may be compared to Canadians in general, who do drink a fair bit more than average. But when I do drink, I love me some Guinness. I don't drink to get drunk; never liked tbe feeling. Besides, it's more fun watching other people make fools of tbemselves lol |

I'm personally not the type of person who drinks but I don't have a problem with other people doing it. As long as their in a position where their not going to harm others whilst drunk (drunk driving, etc) then it's fine. |

I'm not a fan of drinking, especially drinking to get drunk. First, I think every alcoholic beverage tastes horrible. Even the "good" ones taste worse than a bad soft drink. Second, I'm not a fan of the effects. Getting a little buzzed is fun, but I hate the way I act when I drink excessively. I lose my will to turn down drinks, I become more aggressive, and I do a lot of embarrassing things. Embarrassment comes with the territory, but I have bad anxiety and I hate the regret I feel over terrible decisions. Basically, I've learned that it's not for me. Alcohol is a bad idea when you're bottling up a lot of emotions. Weed is king. Edit: I forgot to mention that it's also expensive as hell. I hate the whole club thing. I don't like drinking, wasting money, or loud noises, so it's the opposite of my taste. $5.00 a drink is way out of my comfort zone. I'm super frugal, haha. I drink every once in a while (not at the moment since I found out I was pregnant a couple months ago), but when I do, I only have a few drinks. Not enough to get smashed. I also hate the bar scene. It's boring, and I've never liked it. I'm 26 and can count on both hands how many times I've been to a bar, and half of them were because of events that involved friends like birthdays or bacherlorette parties. I was just along for the ride. I also demand high quality beer or beverages. In other words, I hate cheap beer and wine, and only drink it if I'm a outdoor family gathering and that's all they have in the cooler. You won't see sh*tty beer in my fridge at home like Nattie Ice or Coors. I hate both Nattie Ice and Coors with a passion, the stuff's like beer flavored water. I also don't like Budweiser. The only real major label beers I drink are Corona and Miller. Everything else I drink is either brand name liquor, local, or homemade stuff. |
